Is this false advertising?

I recently bought an item off of ebay (which still isn't here after a month of waiting.) It was a MacGyver season 2 DVD set. He said that it was region 1 and all that and was american. Now I'm being told that my package was shipped out of Shanghai, China on the 21 of july. I've been told that parts of the box and stuff is in Chinese.

First off, how long will this package take to get here; and second, is this false advertising, because I was informed that I was getting an American DVD.

Is this false advertising?
International packages like you have ordered can often take up to about 3 weeks to get to you.

As far as part of the box being in Chinese, I would wait until you get the dvd's to worry. As most dvd's sold in the USA today come from China/Korea/Japan... you likely will get what you paid for. If the dvd's are in fact in English and play on your dvd player, does it really matter if they come from China and part of the box is in Chinese?

If they don't play on your dvd player, you might be able to make a case for it being false advertising, but there is little that you will be able to do other than ask for your money back. If the seller agrees you will likely have to ship them back at your expense; if he doesn't agree to refund or exchange, you could try to sue but that would take thousands of dollars to get results on what was likely a $50 (or so) purchase. You can always give bad feedback though if you truly are unsatisfied with the transaction; doesn't do much in the real world but it will let you feel like you got some revenge.

Good luck with it.

P.S. - I have been told that although non-region 1 dvd's will not play on US dvd players, they will play on dvd equipped computers. Give that a try too.
Reply:ebay could be tricky , did the listing ever state is was an american dvd , or did you just assume that from the picture . Regardless leaving bad feedback is pretty much all you can or would want to do with such a small purchase , I couldn't imagine those dvd's being that much . Bad feedback will ruin their reputation which is the worst that could happen to a seller . Also I have waited longer than a month from shipments overseas .
Reply:The DVD may itself be in English.

If you're dissatisfied you can report them to Ebay.
Reply:Probably not false advertising, if cleverly worded. After all, the series was American (though filmed in Canada), and the original DVD was probably made in the USA. If it was reproduced in Shanghai, that won't necessarily affect the quality. As for the long time it is taking, maybe you can consider that the tradeoff for the good price you got.
