Do many companys not bother advertising jobs?

For the ammount of companys in my local town (must be thousands) there are only 30-60 jobs (estimate) advertised. Is this because companys do not bother advertising? If so why?

Do many companys not bother advertising jobs?
Some companies go straight to Agencies with their job vacancies instead of the Local Newpapers/Job Centre - it saves the company time if the Agency does the interviewing for them.
Reply:Some do ' in house ' advertising, some just put a sign in the window,
Reply:yes companys are not bothered in advertizing because of the increse in technology and the increase in employment of people
Reply:Probably they only advertise the low end jobs, as they want to promote from within the company.
Reply:They probably do not need to advertise because people send in their resumes. This is called the "hidden job market". If you want to work for a company, send in your resume and you will be on file when they need someone. You can follow-up with a phone call and ask if they received your resume and enquire if they are hiring at the moment.
Reply:I dont know whether companies advertise or not but these days we have job search engines whcih get job listings from all company career pages. we have one such job search engine in india i.e www.jobmixi.com, find something like this in your country
Reply:Becuase it costs too much money to advertise.
Reply:No they don't..they often go on recommendations for people. If you're looking for a job, write letters to companies NOT advertising. They'll take notice (it worked extremely well for me)
