Do you think Advertising is partly to blame for the problems with young people drinking in the uk?

put the tv on at 10.10am and they were advertising alcohol, i couldn't believe it, the government moaning about the kids drinking in this country, yet allow adverts like this

what do you think?

Do you think Advertising is partly to blame for the problems with young people drinking in the uk?
YEah, I think th media images people get (espeacially at a young age) influence their behavoiur a lot. Now days kids aren't just curious, they're under pressure as well!! In a way it's the same as skinny fasion models, or how buying a certain product will make you a happier person... The mass media has a very subtle way of pressurising us.
Reply:It is yes. They make drinking look really cool and fashionable and the kids go for it. On ITV they play the cute Kellog's ad followed by an ad for some Russian premium vodka.
Reply:No, I believe that juvenile drinking happens because children are so restricted these days that as soon as they get a chance to do what they want they just go absolutely mental, it's kinda like a temporary insanity. If people that sold drinks were actually prosecuted for selling to underage drinkers it might alleviate the problem a bit. I reckon give kids more space, don't let homes be built without huge gardens (there IS space in Britain to do this) and let them be freer from an early age. I really do believe there would be a better balance and less trouble this way.
Reply:I don't think advertising is to blame I think bad parenting is. There is nothing wrong with drinking in moderation, these youngsters need to be taught how to do it responsibly when they are old enough. Instead of cracking down on advertising lets get tough with small newsagents who sell it to them. It's a difficult subject, I starting drinking very young but my parents didn't care as long as I was out of the way, children particularly teens need something else to do, it does make me sad when I see them sitting in the park drinking cheap cider but I don't know what the solution is sorry.
